Profile of Margaret Hartsook M.A.
As an artist, art teacher and art therapist, I hold the belief that art is a healing force and that we each have the inherent right to explore and express ourselves creatively. I approach my art making and work with clients from a contemplative viewpoint drawing from the beauty and wisdom of art throughout the ages.
In addition to creating my own art, I conduct workshops that facilitate creative growth and personal insight. I see myself as a companion and guide to people of all ages and abilities as they explore and open to their creativity. My deep curiosity about the mysteries of life and the creative process influence my personal art making. Here I explore the stories that compose my life and how these interconnect with archetypal imagery and myth.
About Art Therapy
Art Therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, increase self esteem and self awareness and achieve insight. Art making can be a useful took for expressing and containing complex and overwhelming emotions. Through engaging in the creative process, people may access resources within themselves, make meaning of their lives and accessing healing. Art therapy is for people of all ages and artistic abilities and is about the process of using art materials in a supportive environment. It places its focus on the art making process itself as therapeutic.
Art Therapy is a human services profession practiced by Master's level Art Therapists who are graduates of an accredited Art Therapy program. We are trained in developmental and psychological theory, group and individual therapy along with theories of art and artistic development. I am skilled in offering a variety of art materials and experiences in a way that feels supportive and non-threatening. I am also a trained grief counselor and transpersonal therapist. I see my role as facilitating the creative process and helping individuals to find meaning and insight in their art making.
